JPMorgan Chase Lead Software Engineer - Java & Cloud in Columbus, Ohio

As a Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the agile team, you play a crucial role in improving, developing, and delivering reliable, top-tier technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable manner. As a key technical contributor, your responsibilities include promoting vital technology solutions across numerous technical domains within various business functions, all in support of the firm's business goals.

Job responsibilities

  • Designs, develops, maintains and creates Springboot-based Java microservices in a hybrid cloud infrastructure.

  • Coaches, trains and inspires junior and intermediate software engineers in modern software best practices and both public cloud adoption and migration.

  • Drives software modernization and public cloud migration across development team, area product group and the Global Customer Platform group.

  • Removes blockers and impediments from development team, area product group and Global Customer Platform to reduce friction, frequent pain points and time-to-market.

  • Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems.

  • Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others.

  • Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems.

  • Leads evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to drive outcomes-oriented probing of architectural designs, technical credentials, and applicability for use within existing systems and information architecture.

  • Leads communities of practice across Software Engineering to drive awareness and use of new and leading-edge technologies.

  • Adds to team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.

  • Practical cloud native experience.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in Java/Springboot backend development, design and architecture.

  • 5+ years of experience in event-driven architecture, microservice-based system design and both NoSQL and SQL-like databases.

  • 5+ years of experience in leading an Agile software engineering team of 4+ employees.

  • 3+ years of Public Cloud development, design and architecture, including migration of applications to a public cloud environment.

  • Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.

  • Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods.

  • Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle.

  • Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Applicant Resiliency, and Security.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in software applications and technical processes within a technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.).

  • In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • 3+ years of direct experience in migrating Springboot-based Java microservices to AWS Public Cloud.

  • Applied experience with Kafka, Cassandra, CockroachDB, Splunk and PCF.

  • AWS Developer or Solutions Architect certified.
