Global Philanthropy leads much of these efforts through three teams: the JPMorgan Chase Foundation, Employee Engagement and Volunteerism, and Office of Non-profit Engagement. The Foundation is currently seeking a Regional Executive (RE) to lead our charitable giving in our West Region, managing a combined grant portfolio of approximately $20 million in annual contributions and 6-7 staff. The West Region includes key cities such as Seattle, WA; San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA; Phoenix, AZ. The position will report to the President of the Foundation and maintain a dotted line reporting to the Corporate Responsibility Executive leading the firm-wide engagement in the West region.

Global Philanthropy consists of five regions (three US, two international). Regional Executives work alongside the Foundation’s Program Directors, who set our global strategy, to draw from a high level theory of change to create an actionable, high-impact strategy tailored to their local markets. Regional Executives also lead our engagement of key regional stakeholders and influencers that are critical to informing and advancing our objectives, develop strategic partnerships with other corporations and foundations, and participate in civic leadership tables that drive local and regional economic opportunity agendas. Leaders in this role are also expected to work collaboratively across Corporate Responsibility teams, Communications, and Market Leadership Teams to cultivate internal support and partnerships, respond to local business needs, and leverage the firm’s resources to maximize impact in communities.


Strategy and Planning

  • Lead the development of regional and local grant making strategies and annual business plans that align with the philanthropic goals and objectives of the Foundation and are rooted in local context and conditions with a particular focus on addressing persistent drivers of economic inequality experienced by communities of color, women, and other vulnerable populations;

  • Develop initiatives and collaborative partnerships that advance the firm’s philanthropic goals in target markets, across the firm’s areas of strategic focus – small business, workforce readiness, community development and financial capability – and across the region as a whole.

  • Assess progress toward near- and long-term goals, making strategy adjustments as necessary.Report impact and help distil insights and lessons learned from the grant portfolio for replication in other markets and regions.

  • Provide intelligence and input to assist in the further development of our philanthropic initiatives, regionally and nationally.

  • Work closely with the Program Directors, who lead our grant making across our areas of focus, to identify strategic grant making opportunities and leverage national grantee relationships.

External Representation and Leadership

  • Develop and maintain a productive network of professional relationships with key government, philanthropic, non-profit and other community leaders, including those at senior levels.

  • Improve awareness and visibility of the firm’s philanthropic activities internally and externally; represent the firm at key conferences and meetings and drive the development of content for internal and external distribution.

Internal Engagement and Leadership

  • Represent Foundation strategy before senior executives throughout the region, cultivating champions and building partnerships with key lines of business.

  • Work with Corporate responsibility colleagues to engage regional leadership to participate in events, work closely with grantees, and elevate the firm’s profile among clients, civic leadership, and other key firm stakeholders.

  • Support the Corporate Responsibility Executive in managing internal communications and information flows.

Management Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 6-7 grant making and grant support staff who design and implement plans for individual markets in the West region.

  • Provide oversight and quality control to grants made within the region, including review of grant proposals for Board approval, ensuring adherence to business plan, reviewing impact reports, identifying grantee challenges and troubleshooting as needed.

  • Manage contributions and expense budgets to ensure that strategy and plans are delivered.

  • Produce senior-level briefings and on-going reporting and analysis on key issues to help inform on-going direction of our resources and investment.

  • Contribute to a culture of prudent risk management and adhere to the requirements of the firm’s control environment.

  • Effectively communicate business objectives throughout their region and possess a strong ability to build and cultivate relationships with a varied list of stakeholders.

Cross-Firm Integration

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with local JPMC business leaders and colleagues in other parts of Corporate Responsibility; ensure that CR colleagues and local business leadership teams are aware of, support and participate in the firm’s philanthropic strategy and its implementation.

  • Communicate the firm’s philanthropic strategy to multiple internal constituencies; work closely with media relations and other internal partners to maximize coverage of and participation in events.

The successful candidate must possesses an awareness of critical needs and social issues facing the region within the scope of the firm's philanthropic priorities, familiarity with JPMorgan Chase businesses operating in the region, an ability to identify and connect with high-quality nonprofits, knowledge of socioeconomic conditions at the community level, access to key stakeholders and an understanding of the policy environment.


  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred

  • Minimum of 10-15 years of relevant work experience in policy/program development and implementation; demonstrated ability to think critically and strategically about program design and implementation

  • Experience in managing a team and a skill set to foster their professional development

  • Familiarity, experience and commitment to advancing issues of equity and inclusive economic growth

  • Passion for the Foundation’s mission; deep knowledge of and experience related to economic development, workforce readiness, financial capability and/or community development

  • Understanding of grantmaking and the nonprofit sector; ability to assess the leadership, track record, fiscal health and capacity of a nonprofit organization

  • Creative, flexible and collaborative with an ability to work in a team-oriented environment; demonstrates a high degree of initiative; results-oriented, high level of attention to detail and deadlines

  • Familiarity with the financial services industry, as well as with Community Reinvestment Act and other applicable regulations

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills; personal presence to represent the firm in diverse forums and organizational relationships

  • Frequent domestic travel required
