The IB Family Coverage Group is part of J.P. Morgan’s Regional Investment Banking (RIB) Group, which focuses on capital raising and strategic advisory for private and public companies that are existing Commercial Bank clients or prospects of the Firm. The group focuses on companies on a regional basis, with offices in New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Clients span multiple industries such as Consumer, Retail, Industrials, Automotive, Transportation, Metals & Mining, Chemicals, Healthcare, Technology, Media, Telecom, Energy, Financial Institutions, and Real Estate. The team partners closely with both industry specialists and product experts across the Firm to be the client's strategic advisor and financial partner, providing a broad range of investment banking products to existing Commercial Bank clients and prospects.

The Role:

The Analyst will play a central role within the Family Coverage Group in all aspects of client prospecting and coverage, idea generation and M&A, debt and equity capital markets transaction execution. In addition, the Analyst will also have an opportunity to work on transactions with the Regional IB team. The combined responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Assist with client prospecting, including doing research on a number of families and family investment firms and understanding the nature of existing JPMorgan relationships

  • Act in a secondary coverage capacity for key focus accounts, including idea generation and client interaction/relationship building

  • Help to prepare marketing materials for meetings with clients and prospects

  • Help to prepare pitch documents for all Investment Banking products, including sell-side, buy-side, equity monetization, buy-side financing and execute mandated transactions

  • Market, structure and execute corporate finance deals, including mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, spin-offs and debt/equity financings

  • Develop models, consisting of financial statements and data, as well as required key outputs, using discounted cash flow, merger, accretion/dilution, leveraged buyout, comparable company, comparable transaction and sum-of-the-parts analyses

  • Significant direct interaction with senior coverage and product bankers in the Investment Bank, Private Bank and Commercial Bank

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess or demonstrate the following personal and professional attributes:

  • Education required: Bachelors' degree from a leading university

  • Previous internship or full time experience in Investment Banking is a plus

  • Knowledge of corporate finance and accounting with experience in analyzing company financials

  • Ability to interact comfortably with clients and senior internal colleagues in a professional and mature manner

  • Highly independent, proactive and entrepreneurial with strong interest in building a new business

  • Intellectual curiosity, independent research and creativity, strong work ethic/integrity/judgment and desire to learn

  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills with specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely and defend their validity while maintaining high attention to detail

  • Very strong financial modeling/valuation and analytical skills, including DCF, LBO, trading comparables, precedent transactions, accretion/dilution, value creation analysis, financing models, three-statement models and combined pro forma models

  • Excellent technology skills with superior Excel and PowerPoint skills and ability to quickly learn new software applications
