JPMorgan Chase Compliance Manager in San Antonio, Texas

Global Financial Crimes Compliance ("GFCC") is part of the Global Compliance & Regulatory Management department which is responsible for the provision of compliance services to the firm. The GFCC organization aims to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. GFCC has over 1,000 staff members across the world and covers both global and business-aligned functions supporting the firm's Anti-Money Laundering ("AML"), Sanctions and Anti-Corruption programs. The Vice President ("603") position is a Compliance Manager role within the AML Investigations program.

The Compliance Manager will lead a team of talented AML Investigators that are responsible for identifying and evaluating money laundering and terrorist financing risk factors, including typology, geography, product, customer type (expected activity) and other risk categories. The candidate will function with a high level of personal accountability and dedicate themselves to protecting the firm against money laundering or terrorist financing risks. The candidate exhibits an in-depth understanding of the investigative process and develops talent within the team. This position requires proven leadership and teamwork, while also a willingness to tackle new and difficult challenges. The candidate will be inquisitive and explore innovative ways to review and analyze data in order to present useful information. The candidate will be expected to consistently interact with senior AML management, senior representatives from varied lines of business, and the Review and Quality Assurance ("QA") groups.

The successful candidate will have very strong, comprehensive AML and banking system knowledge. The position requires a self-starter that is willing to work in ambiguous detail, having the ability to guide the analysis of large amounts of unstructured information to identify and address high risk activity. This position requires the individual to exercise sound judgment, observe the highest degree of confidentiality in the handling of information received in the course of discharging responsibilities and high quality standards when conducting an investigation.


  • Responsible for communicating organization-wide performance objectives and implementing them; develop the team in order to meet those objectives; track progress of performance and execute on tactical strategies for goal attainment

  • Supervise the team's day-to-day operation which may include assigning and reviewing work items, while also providing feedback and completing performance evaluations of staff members

  • Manage large scale projects and coordinate across global investigative regions

  • Lead and develop innovative and proactive initiatives to challenge the status quo

  • Drive process improvements, including controls and proactively address stress points and pursue necessary solutions in an effort to improve the current process

  • Leverage strong money laundering and terrorist financing typology knowledge and business acumen to quickly and effectively identify high risk activity and escalate when appropriate

  • Design, create, and deliver work summaries, metrics reporting and presentations appropriate for the intended audience which can include senior AML management and senior representatives from the lines of business

  • Conduct staff meetings to communicate procedural updates and technological enhancements, while also facilitate one-on-one meetings for individual coaching purposes

  • Provide ongoing feedback, which includes providing updates within the performance management system and delivering year-end performance reviews

  • Review and approve final work products including Significant Suspicious Activity Reports ("SARs"), project slide decks and closure documents

  • Establish collaborative working relationships with AML Investigations team members on a global scale

  • Build relationships with the Review and QA groups; act as a liaison between groups for dispute resolution when escalated

  • Make independent decisions and discuss more complex regulatory issues including the line of business impact with senior AML management


  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Compliance, SAR writing, or a related position (including regulatory or law enforcement) with a minimum standard of 2 years of prior management experience

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience required

  • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills

  • An independent decision maker able to make time-sensitive assessments

  • Capable of working under minimum supervision, a results-oriented team player

  • In-depth knowledge of various money laundering and terrorist financing typologies

  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills having the ability to present to executive levels in the organization

  • Exceptional research and analytical skills

  • Understanding of all lines of business and products

  • Understanding of regulatory concepts including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act ("BSA"), Office of Foreign Assets Control Sanctions ("OFAC"), and the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001

  • Investigative experience with exposure to international regions and multi-national corporations as it relates to clients and correspondent banking activity

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook/Word/Excel/Access/PowerPoint) and must be able to demonstrate advanced ability to prepare and deliver presentation materials

Preferred Skills / Experience:

  • Program/Project Management experience at JPMC or a similar global financial institution

  • Deep understanding of the systems utilized by JPMC AML Investigations

  • SAR/STR subject matter expertise

  • Knowledge of banking businesses and related products including investment management, treasury services, and correspondent banking

  • Law Enforcement or Financial Services Regulatory experience

  • In-depth understanding of BSA, AML, OFAC and other AML regulatory policies

  • J.D. or other advanced degree

  • Relevant AML/OFAC certifications strongly preferred
